Halloween: Cool Things

Halloween was always being in our house when my kids were younger.  Even now, we get a kick out of the neighborhood kids coming though we don’t put very much energy in decorating.

I wanted to share two things we have done in the decor department that were not that difficult and provided a ton of reward.

First one was during COVID.  We made a candy chute so we could keep a good distance from kids but still interact and hand out candy.  We sat on our front porch and instructed the kids to put their baskets/bags at the bottom of the chute.

It is simply white PVC spray painted black and zip tied to our front rail.

The second thing is a much easier craft.  A Jackolantern window!

You simply take a big box and flatten it.  Then draw as big as will fit;  the eyes, nose and mouth of a jackolantern on the cardboard.  Then cut out the eyes, nose and mouth.  Tape orange tissue paper (a couple layers thick) behind the cardboard.  Then on Halloween, push the cardboard into a front window and place a lamp sans lampshade behind it (make sure the room is dark otherwise).  This is what you get!  FUN!

Orange Tissue Paper

Flatten a cardboard box, biggest one you can find. Cut out the jack0lantern face, tape orange tissue paper behind the cutouts. Place in window with light behind (remove lampshade for best results).
